Our antivirus analysis shows that this Mac download is malware free. The sole source for macOS Sierra is from the OS X/macOS App Store, or by booting into Internet Recovery (option+command+R), taking the default downloaded version of OS X from Apple that originally shipped with your Mac, and then using the App Store on that release of OS X to select/download/install MacOS Sierra from the App Store. Choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) from the list.
Name the file you want erased (for instance macOS Sierra). You can see the list of disks, find your Startup Disk among them and choose it. The latest installer that can be downloaded is 26.7 MB in size. Open Disk Utility, you can see it in the Utilities selector. If you want to install Sierra and leave the data intact, select Install OS X.

Previous versions of OS X and Mac OS X which were purchased by an Apple ID will appear in the MAS’s Purchased list for that Apple ID, but macOS Sierra is an exception because it did not need to be purchased using an Apple ID.įortunately, Sierra has not been removed from the MAS and it is still available for download. The Sierra operating system is no longer receiving Security and browser updates from Apple, and also falls outside of Microsofts minimum operating system for installation of Office 365/Office 2019 for Mac. Now that macOS High Sierra has been released, it’s become more difficult to access the macOS Sierra installer in the Mac App Store (MAS) for those who still need it.
